DOCUMENTARY FILMS

SOUTH GASTONIA CHURCH OF GOD

Savannah GA creative agency Maring Fine Art created this logo and all of the artwork seen in the film

Maring designed the logo for the film, which could also be utilized for T-Shirts, book covers, and other novelties surrounding the 90th Anniversary celebration.

In celebration of their 90th anniversary South Gastonia Church of God reached out to Maring Fine Art about producing a storytelling documentary that brought their rich history together with their current day message. Our team took the drive up from Savannah, Georgia to South Gastonia, NC and captured all that you see here and so much more. Considering their 90 year existence we were fortunate that they had a few original members of the church alive and well to help tell some of the stories with heart.

We brought in lighting and audio to interview pastors, families, and church members in the sanctuary, and married that with historical photographs and illustrations. The voice over was done by one of the members of the church further personalizing the film.

Illustration for a documentary film

Maring restored old photographs, and created illustrations when the storyline dated too far back to generate content for the film.

A lot of thought and organization goes into a project like this. We needed to restore many of the photographs you’ll see in the film, and when we went so far back in time that photographs didn’t exist we took the time to create illustrations to fill in the storyline. Maring also created the opening logo you see above as well.

Preserving the history of your church, or even your family, or company for that matter helps future generations understand the hard work and effort that went into keeping the faith. We were honored to be called upon to create a film that celebrated their past, present, and future. Unveiling the Tapestry of Faith

The Significance of Historical Documentaries for Church Denominations

In the vast tapestry of human history, the threads of faith weave a rich and colorful narrative. Within the walls of our churches, echoes of the past resonate, reminding us of the journey taken by our predecessors. Yet, as time marches forward, memories can fade, stories can be lost, and the roots of our faith can become obscured.

In this digital age, historical documentaries stand as guardians of our collective heritage, preserving the narratives that shape our religious identities. For church denominations, these documentaries serve as more than mere recollections of bygone days; they are windows into the soul of our faith communities, illuminating the struggles, triumphs, and transformative moments that have sculpted our beliefs.

One of the paramount reasons for creating historical documentaries lies in their ability to foster a deeper understanding of our spiritual lineage. By chronicling the origins of our denominations, these films provide insight into the theological, cultural, and societal contexts that birthed our beliefs. They invite us to walk alongside the pioneers who paved the way, grappling with the same questions and challenges they faced.

Moreover, historical documentaries serve as invaluable educational tools, offering a compelling medium through which to impart the teachings and values of our faith traditions to future generations. Through captivating storytelling and immersive visuals, these films breathe life into the pages of history, making the past relevant and accessible to contemporary audiences. In doing so, they bridge the gap between the old and the new, fostering a sense of continuity and belonging within our faith communities.

Furthermore, historical documentaries play a vital role in preserving the diversity of voices within our denominations. By amplifying the stories of marginalized or underrepresented groups, these films challenge us to confront the complexities of our shared history and acknowledge the contributions of all who have shaped our faith journeys. In embracing the full spectrum of our heritage, we honor the richness of our traditions and deepen our commitment to inclusivity and justice.

In essence, the creation of historical documentaries for church denominations is an act of stewardship—a testament to our reverence for the past and our dedication to the future. As we navigate the currents of change and progress, let us not forget the anchor of our history, for it is upon this foundation that we build our faith communities. By preserving and sharing our stories, we ensure that the flame of our spiritual heritage continues to burn brightly, guiding us ever forward on our sacred journey.
