an epic.
epic poetry.

The latest album by artist Charles Maring is a storytelling LP filled with epic tales from a life well lived that was inspired by love, family, friends, creativity, art, travels, and places lived. With an edgy Americana sound this body of work takes listeners on a sonic journey featuring Maring’s finger style acoustic guitar, strong upfront vocals, and an eclectic mix of African and Caribbean beats, dueling electric guitars, pianos, pedal steel, horns, and more. All the stories were written on an acoustic guitar, and the artist allowed the mood of each story to shape the evolution of each song. Join Charles on a cross country road trip, sail the world in search of that sand, dive deep into a New York Story, or experience the vibe of a ghost town down in Savannah Georgia. “Epopee” is brimming with legendary, and often real tales from the artist’s personal journey that moves listeners who spend time with the album. BEHIND THE MUSIC

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO STORYTELLING

Artist Charles Maring showcasing his large scale abstract paintings while performing with Outside Reality for a television segment.

An International Award winning storyteller in the visual arts, Maring is now spinning his soulful visions and thoughts into relatable heartfelt songs. Charles seeks to create timeless music with classic recordings that take listeners on a lyrical journey. He writes songs that can take you home, or possibly on the most epic of road trips where a song can be the soundtrack to a beautiful memory. Most of his writing begins solo on an acoustic guitar, and evolve in a myriad of ways from there. Charles is in the studio currently releasing singles on an ongoing basis, and just released a full 9 song LP. With an over the top Americana sound Maring’s music pulls from every decade of music sometimes leaning towards folk or rock, and other times towards country.

Charles recently relocated from the Northeast, and is now living in downtown Savannah, GA. There is where you are from, where you have been, and who you have loved and Maring’s music weaves it all together in a beautiful and meaningful way.

“It’s wonderful how hazy “Savannah Sky” is. Everything blends perfectly creating a unique and absorbing soundscape. There is a strong sense of storytelling here as well, it truly feels like a journey from start to finish. ”

— PLEASE PASS THE INDIE

Charles’ interests go beyond the music alone. As an artist he aims to connect with an audience in a way that is completely original, and is forever working towards new ways to do so. The intersection of art and music is where it really gets interesting. From music videos to huge fine art tapestries, or live storytelling animation projections behind him, the visual art he creates compliments the music in a beautiful way. Above all, Maring wants to move people with his art and music, and aims high to create an experience rather than just a performance.

“The Connecticut-based Outside Reality — Charles Maring on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dan O’Keefe and Jeff Piscitelli on electric guitars, Robert Pallman on bass, and Jay More on drums — brought the night home with a rousing set of rock ‘n’ roll that pulled from other influences to create a rich sound. O’Keefe and Piscitelli were marvelously paired, providing intricate playing and searing solos, while Pallman and More were a driving rhythm section. Maring had the kind of high, strong voice that could cut through the band’s big sound….”

Story by Lauren Wolverton - Connect Savannah

“Give You Strength” by Charles Maring is an emotive story bound to touch the hearts of all listeners. “Give You Strength” also acts as a time capsule, capturing an unforgettable era in music. In the way that we associate “Ohio” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young or “For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield with the Vietnam War Era, this song represents a significant time in both American and international history. ” Read the full review…
