The Art of Portraiture
Distinctive portraits for editorial features, book covers, advertising campaigns, public relations, and individuals with stories worth telling.
Commissioned Portrait Photography for Editorial, Publicity & Personal Brands
Throughout my career, I've photographed authors, artists, entertainers, entrepreneurs, executives, and public figures for magazine features, book covers, advertising campaigns, public relations, and personal commissions. Some assignments call for a single defining portrait, while others involve creating an extensive collection of images that reveal different sides of someone's personality and can be used across publications, campaigns, and future opportunities. My approach combines the sensibility of a fine-art photographer with an understanding of how imagery works in publishing, advertising, and visual storytelling. Whether photographing someone in a carefully lit studio or an environment that reflects their life and work, my goal is to create portraits that feel authentic, distinctive, and meaningful long after the session is complete.
One Person. Many Stories.
A portrait session can reveal far more than a single side of someone's personality. Over the years, I've collaborated with television personality and entertaining expert David Tutera on photography for books, magazine features, lifestyle editorials, and promotional campaigns. Some images are carefully composed and dramatic, while others capture the energy and personality of David at work. Together, they illustrate something I believe is essential to commissioned portraiture: creating a versatile collection of photographs that serves different opportunities while remaining authentic to the individual.
Portraits for Publishing & Editorial
A photograph created for a book cover or magazine feature must do more than capture a likeness. It needs to communicate personality, establish a visual identity, and connect with an audience, sometimes before a single word is read.
My collaborations with television personality and author Star Jones included photography for two book covers, including Shine, as well as portraits created for publicity and advertising. Each assignment called for a different visual approach, shaped by the story being told and the audience it was intended to reach.
Whether working with authors, editors, publishers, or publicists, I approach editorial portraiture with an understanding of how photographs will ultimately be used, creating images that are both visually distinctive and purposeful.
Environmental Portraits: People, Places & Personality
Some of the most revealing portraits happen when people are photographed in the environments where they create, work, and feel most themselves. These surroundings offer visual clues about their interests, personalities, and the stories that shape their lives.
Photographing Savannah artist Tafy Laplanche in her studio offered an opportunity to explore both the thoughtful and spontaneous sides of her personality. In one portrait, she sits quietly before one of her paintings, creating a visual relationship between artist and artwork. In another, she laughs freely amid the canvases, colors, and creative energy of her studio.
I love these contrasts. They remind me that meaningful portraiture isn't always about finding one perfect expression. Sometimes it's about creating a collection of images that reveals the many dimensions of a person.
The most compelling professional portraits communicate more than someone's position or title. They reveal personality, establish credibility, and help audiences connect with the individuals behind a business, brand, or organization.
I've photographed executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders in environments ranging from corporate offices in New York to the historic wine cellars of Verona, Italy. My portrait of Umberto Pasqua, President of Pasqua Wines, reflects an approach I particularly enjoy: bringing together the individual, their surroundings, and the character of the business they represent.
Whether creating imagery for corporate publications, executive biographies, public relations, speaking engagements, or personal branding, I approach each assignment with the same objective: photographs that feel authentic, visually distinctive, and purposeful.
Executive Portraits & Personal Branding Photography
Advertising, Public Relations & Brand Photography
A successful commercial portrait does more than introduce a person. It communicates an idea, supports a message, and helps shape how a brand or individual is perceived.
Throughout my career, I've created photography for advertising campaigns, public relations, product launches, editorial features, and promotional initiatives. These assignments often require a balance between creative expression and practical considerations, from how an image will be composed for advertising to the different ways it may be used across print, digital media, and publicity.
My work has included portraits for the American Heart Association's Go Red campaign featuring Star Jones, advertising and publicity photography for Panasonic's VariCam cameras, and lifestyle imagery for entrepreneurs and creative professionals developing their personal brands.
Whether collaborating with an advertising agency, a publicist, a marketing team, or directly with a client, I bring an artist's perspective to photography designed to communicate, connect, and create opportunity.
Let's Create Something Meaningful
Every portrait begins with a conversation. Whether you're preparing a book, developing an advertising campaign, introducing a personal brand, or simply seeking a portrait that reflects who you are, I'd welcome the opportunity to explore your vision.
Based in Savannah, Georgia, I accept editorial, commercial, and personal portrait commissions throughout New York, the United States, and internationally. Each assignment is approached with individual attention, creative collaboration, and a commitment to making photographs that matter.
