A Wedding Day Like No Other
There are moments in wedding photography that feel like they exist outside of time—where everything aligns, not because the conditions are perfect, but because the emotion is. “Guardian of Her Joy” is one of those moments.
This photograph was taken in the Hamptons, on Long Island, at the very onset of a hurricane. The skies had darkened, the wind had picked up, and the first drops of rain had begun to fall. But in the midst of it all, a father held an umbrella over his daughter—his little girl—shielding her with the same love and protection he’d given her throughout her life.
And she smiled. Not a nervous smile, not a forced smile, but a radiant, joyful one that said, “This day is still beautiful.” That’s what drew me in.
The Power of Focus and Intention
I chose a shallow depth of field to tell the story with intention. By softening the background, the raindrops became gentle, glowing elements—almost like falling confetti—while the focus stayed on her face, and the way her father leaned ever so slightly in to cover her from the rain.
This wasn’t posed. This wasn’t planned. This was a fleeting moment of honesty, and it’s what I live to capture.
